March-30's Mini Group Meeting

Bonita Kallestad gave a wonderful demonstration on the "double wedding ring" block from Eleanor Burns- "Egg Money Quilts" book.
Linda Kacher's blocks are made out of 30's reproduction fabrics.
Theresa Burgmeier's blocks are made with fabric that gives a civil war feel. The black background is stunning making the fabric in the blocks float above the background.
Linda Bjornberg's is making two quilts. One is made out of 30's reproduction fabric and the other has a Christmas feel to it.
Smitty Luschen is using 30's reproduction fabrics.
Deb Bomstad quilt blocks have a Christmas feel. The red background fabric is awesome.
Jeanette Swenson showed us her block of the month quilt from last year.

April - 30's Mini Group Meeting

"Grandmother's Flower Garden" is the 2nd block we are making from Eleanor Burns: "Egg Money Quilts" book.
Included in the "Egg Money Quilts'' book is this Grandmother's Garden Purse pattern.
"Old Maid's Puzzle" finished blocks from last month.
Deb showed her hand pieced "Double Wedding Ring" quilt in progress.  The batiks against the black background is gorgeous.
Smitty's quilt from our last block of the month.  This photo doesn't do this quilt justice.  It is made out the Minnesota fabric. This was a brilliant way to use this MN fabric.
Linda showed her hand pieced "Grandmother's Flower Garden" quilt in progress. This is made from reproduction 30's prints. This cheerful quilt just makes you smile.
Karen's quilt is made from fun bright fabrics.  This is a gift for a granddaughters first twin bed. What an awesome gift.
This is one of the Quilts of Valor quilts. This is from Eleanor Burns:  "Quick Trips Quilts" book.  This is one of Tami's first quilt project.

March - 30's Mini Group Meeting

We started a new project this month.  We are making the blocks from Eleanor Burns: Egg Money Quilts. This is a photo of the first block "Old Maid's Puzzle".  Four "Old Maid's Puzzle" blocks were combined to make this one block.  Eleanor's books are so well written.  She has many amazing tricks and short cuts.  The block we will be making next month is Grandmother's Flower Garden.
Theresa finished her gorgeous quilt from our last block of the month project.

January - 30's Mini Group Meeting

This is the last "Disappearing Nine Patch" quilt the 30's Mini group finished for the Quilts of Valor.
The phase disappearing nine patch suits the method perfectly, because to make the quilt blocks a simple nine patch block is sliced apart -- it disappears and is replaced by four smaller units.

This quilt is made using nine patch blocks with 5" squares. This quilt looks different to the ones that were on the post on December 18th. Click here to see the ones we made that night. This 9 patch block was made with a white square in the middle, red squares around it and blue squares in the corners. They stitched the squares together to form a traditional nine patch. Then each block was cut into four equal pieces by cutting through the block vertically and horizontally.

There are many free patterns for this quilt block.  Click here to find one of them. This is from "Popular Patchwork" website.

Deb showed us how she sews on her quilt labels.
We always love show and tell.  It doesn't have to be 30's fabric. Our next 30's mini meeting is February 5th, 6:00 at the Community Center.

December - 30's Mini Group

The 30's Mini Group decided instead of having a Holiday Party they would have a Sew Day for "Quilts of Valor".  Making a quilt using the pattern "Disappearing Nine Patch."
They started by making a nine patch block with 5" squares. Each 9 patch was made with a red square in the middle, white squares around it and blue squares in the corners. They stitched the squares together to form a traditional nine patch. Then each block was cut into four equal pieces by cutting through the block vertically and horizontally.

There are a few ways to lay this block out.  This is what the group decided on.

Members of this group were asked to make the nine patch blocks at home and bring them to the meeting.  The group of 10 ladies were able to complete 2 quilt tops and 2 more almost completed tops in about 3 hours.  What talented members we have in our guild!
