September 2017 - Pauline Prawl

Quilt Artist Pauline Prawl was our guest speaker on September 12, 2017.  Pauline had a solo show of her art quilts through the Willmar Area Arts Council and WEAC within the past year.  Her presentation was called "Message within the Cloth."  She shared her art and quilting stories with us, along with her gorgeous art quilts.

August 2017 - Lori Allison

Our speaker at the August 8, 2017, meeting was Lori Allison, All About Color Quilting, which features all things from the Kaffe Fassett collection:  fabrics, patterns, kits.  Her presentation was called "Simple Piecing, Spectacular Quilts" and the quilts certainly reflected that!  Here are photos from her trunk show and talk.

Boutique Make -N- Take

Thank you to everyone who joined our Make 2 -N- Take 1 on August 8, 2017.  Sharon Banister provided a workshop on how to make zipper pouches.  We made two pouches, donated one to the Quilt Show Boutique and took the other one home.  We also worked on other items to sell, such as pillowcases and needle holders.  It was a fun day and we hope to hold another one soon.

Cathy Geier's Strip Piecing Applique Class

Twenty guild members took Cathy Geier's Strip Piecing Applique Class on July 12, 2017.  She was a fabulous teacher, going from quilter to quilter throughout the day, making sure that everyone understood the concept, and helping with design decisions.  Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us, Cathy! Here's a photo of Cathy holding one of her quilts, followed by three happy students.

July 2017 - Block of the Month

Many thanks to Dorothy and Darlene for presenting twelve Blocks of the Month during the past year.  Here is Dorothy with the original BOM quilt, along with three more finished projects.

July 2017 - Cathy Geier from Patchworks that Praise

Cathy Geier presented her quilt story with us in July 2017.  We could relate to her humorous journey as she described how she got into quilting until they took over the house.  She shared many of her beautiful quilts with us that use the strip applique piecing method.  Here a just a few of them.

April 2017 - Sherri Moening

Sherri Moening from Brooten shared her beautiful quilting with us in April.

The Quilt Cult visited in March 2017

The Quilt Cult is a small group of gals who took a one-and-a-half day class at a quilt shop in Willmar many years ago.  They thought they'd be going home from the class with quilts but all they had to show for the day were 15,000 pieces they had cut!  Since then they've met regularly to sew, exchange blocks, and share the fun of quilting.  "We have a fantasy that we're getting rid of stash," one member said, making the entire room laugh.  Their name came from someone's son, who when he heard about the women meeting to sew, said, "what is it, some kind of cult?"  Whatever it is, the quilts they shared with us are gorgeous, and here are just a few.
