Deb Bomstad, Lorna Yanish, & Jean Rasmussen showed us their favorite hand applique method and provided us a trunk show with some of their appliqued quilts.
Deb Bomstad's favorite method is needleturn. She likes to use batik fabric, 3/16th seam allowance and turn as you go. Some of the tools she likes to use are a serrated scissors, Clover applique pins, size 11 needle and Aurifil thread. She competed her first applique quilt in 2000.
Lorna Yanish's favorite method is wash away foundation paper. She uses Dritz Wash Away Foundation Paper and Dritz Quilting Fabric Glue Stick for her applique. Some of her favorite tools are That Purple Thang and applique pins. She has been quilting for about 30 years and appliqueing for 7.
Jean Rasmussen's favorite method is with spray starch. She likes to use "heavy" spray starch and mix it with about 1/2 water. Then uses a stencil brush to apply this to the fabric and uses an iron to press it into place. She makes her templates out of cardboard and uses the thinnest thread she can find. Jean stated appliqueing about 60 years ago.
Three amazing appliquers with three different methods and all three have gorgeous results.
Ended the evening with lots of Show and Tell.
