March - March Madness

March Madness at Country Quilters. Members were asked to bring a scrap (size between 5 inch square to 10 inch square, though doesn't have to be square) of "spring-y" fabric. We needed some color after a brutal winter!

Members were placed in random groups and were challenged to make a quilt block on a felt board using all the fabrics in our group, scissors, and painters tape.

 Group one
 Group two
 Group three
 Group four
 Group five
Here are the blocks the groups came up with.  What a creative group we are!

March - 30's Mini Group Meeting

We started a new project this month.  We are making the blocks from Eleanor Burns: Egg Money Quilts. This is a photo of the first block "Old Maid's Puzzle".  Four "Old Maid's Puzzle" blocks were combined to make this one block.  Eleanor's books are so well written.  She has many amazing tricks and short cuts.  The block we will be making next month is Grandmother's Flower Garden.
Theresa finished her gorgeous quilt from our last block of the month project.

Grandmother's Puzzle - Table Topper

This quick table topper is made by adding triangles on two sides of the Grandmother's Puzzle block.  Cut an eight inch square on the diagonal and add these to the Grandmother's Puzzle block.

This smaller size table topper is a great size for a coffee table or end table.

February - Marilyn Foreman "Quilt Moments"

Marilyn Foreman from Quilt Moments was our February Country Quilters program.  This is Marilyn holding her quilt "Twister Illusions".

Marilyn Foreman has enjoyed quilting as a hobby since 1996.  Quilt Moments’ was formed at the end of 2006 after she designed a quilt for the Quilt Pink event for charity and received several requests about the availability of a pattern for her quilt called Kensington Kaleidoscope.

Marilyn likes to use lots of fabrics in her quilts and many of her designs often incorporate a large feature print with easy four-patch kaleidoscope blocks.  Her colors tend to be bright and bold, however, she loves all types of fabric and is excited to make quilt samples in a variety of styles.  She shared a fun story with us that she has bins full of ideas waiting to make more quilt samples.
